ImageSo you really like this guy or girl but aren’t quite sure if you’re ready to jump into the huge world of dating - much less Christian dating. Most Christians will tell you that Christian dating puts a ton of pressure on you since you should be living for God while following His laws. So the question is - how do you know if you’re ready to start dating? My stance on this one is that you are ready to start dating when you have a solid relationship with Jesus Christ and have a strong grip on your beliefs and morals. That’s a lot to digest so let me break it down for you: You need a solid relationship with Jesus Christ - Whether you’re a guy or a girl, your number one relationship in life needs to be with Jesus. The Bible talks about the importance of having a solid relationship with Him and therefore we should follow that advice! You should be praying constantly and seeking His guidance about dating someone. One of my favorite Bible verses is James 1:5: “If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.” If you’re stumped as to whether God is calling you to a relationship then pray about it and ask God for wisdom! If you are called to be single that’s OK! Being single is by no means a “defeat” - the Bible makes many references of people being single (famous people in the Bible who were single include Paul and oh yeah, Jesus). Bottom line, you need to seek God and then dive into a dating relationship - you’ll be happy you did down the road! You need a strong grip on your beliefs and morals - Do you have an opinion about some of the “hot topics” in Christianity such as speaking in tongues or when you should be baptized? By looking to God’s Word and then making a decision on where you stand, you’ll be able to talk about these deep theological issues with your future boyfriend and girlfriend. One of the things that you don’t want to have happen is going into a relationship with no opinion on any theological issue. If you do this, chances are your boyfriend or girlfriend will pretty much decide for you. I’ve seen this many times in relationships! If you’re dating a solid Christian and keep God in the center of your relationship, then this may not be a bad thing. By dating a solid Christian you get a better grasp of the Christian faith. Sadly, not all Christians date other Christians and therefore lose their faith. Bottom line, know where you stand so you can talk about these issues! The pastor at Denton Bible Church, Tommy Nelson, said that you are ready to start dating when you are running as fast as you can for Jesus and you find someone running next to you. What a great analogy! As Christians, we are ready to date someone when we are giving all we have to Jesus and want to share that faith with .
